Dystonia Causes
Dystonia may be hereditary or caused by other factors such as birth-related or other physical trauma, infection, poisoning (e.g. lead poisoning) or reaction or pharmaceutical drugs, particularly neuroleptics.
Some of these known causes of dystonia include: antipsychotic drugs, anticonvulsant drugs, trauma, Wilson’s disease (high level of copper in kidneys), birth injury, stroke, brain tumor and numerous others.
It is important to know the cause of one’s disease; however, more important is the treatment to find relief. You can read the dystonia treatment section of this site to learn about possible options. The common treatment for dystonia is injections into their eyelids or ingesting drugs. Other treatments that have been tried are biofeedback, acupuncture, hypnosis, relaxation techniques, and chiropractic. Following a specific nutritional program is what helped diminish my blinking dramatically and improved my quality of life. Since I have been helped, I would like to help others. I can be your personal wellness coach and help you have a healthier future.
